Reps meeting to discuss strike ballot

The NUT Easter conference voted to ballot for strike action over the effect the government white paper on academies will have on funding and our terms and conditions.

The ballot will open in May, and to prepare for that date there will be a meeting for all Manchester NUT reps on Wednesday 11 May at 4.30pm. It will take place at the GMP Sports and Social Club on Mauldeth Road West, M21 7SX.

It is essential that as many reps as possible attend this meeting, including those already working in academies. The ending of national terms and conditions and most probably the Burgundy Book, will affect all schools.

We would further urge you to encourage all members to attend the General Meeting planned for 5pm on Thursday 19 May at the same venue, when we will discuss the planned action further, and be addressed by Mike Kane MP on the Trade Union bill.

MTA office closing for Easter

Even though Easter has been and gone, most Manchester schools close for the Easter holiday on Friday 01 April, and so too does the MTA office.

We will re-open on Monday 18 April. All current casework is being dealt with, and HR and schools are fully aware of our holiday dates.

The national helpline is available for emergencies and essential new cases only on 0203 0066 266.

Please don’t use this number for ongoing casework unless absolutely essential.
