End of one term – looking forward to another!

christmas-treeAs we approach the end of the Christmas term this Friday, we’d like to wish all our members a happy and peaceful Christmas. Enjoy your hard earned rest!

The MTA office will shut on Friday 18 December 2015, and reopen on Monday 04 January 2016. The national helpline will be available for some of that time on 0203 0066 266.

And to help you banish the January blues when you return for the new term, there are two events to look forward to:

There will be a Young Teacher pub crawl on Saturday 09 January, starting at 1pm in Trof bar on Thomas Street in the Northern Quarter. First drink is free when you show your union card, and there will be information about how you can become more involved in your union from John Morgan (Manchester Secretary) and Amanda Martin (National Executive). A great way to meet fellow teachers, and don’t forget, Young Teachers extends to 35! Teetotalers are very welcome to come along and share the fun.

Secondly, our Annual General Meeting will take place at 5pm on Wednesday 20 January at Hough End Police Club on Mouldeth Rd, Chorlton. Guest speaker will be Hilda Palmer from the Manchester Hazards Campaign, talking about the TTIP trade agreement, and how it is essential public sector workers and unions oppose its more draconian clauses.
