As everyone knows, NUT and the ATL members voted overwhelmingly to form the National Education Union earlier this year, and the new union was officially launched on 01 September. But how will it affect your membership here in Manchester?
It takes time to join together such large organisations, and we’ll have until January 2019 to finish the merger.
In the meantime, there will still be a NUT section (and an ATL section!), operating as normal, but slowly coming together over the next one year and one term.
If you need assistance – use the same numbers you always have, both for the national helpline and the Manchester office.
In schools, reps have been told that they can be joint reps with their ATL colleagues, or in some cases, they may wish to decide between them who takes over the role.
There will be events planned, and invitations to joint meetings and functions, so that we can all get to know each other better – and we will be part of the fourth biggest union in the country.
Welcome back to the new academic year, and to your new union!
